Barcelona secured their passage into the next round as Lionel Messi returned to the side and powered the Catalans to victory.

Under the lights in a freezing cold Celtic Park, there was an electric atmosphere and the teams started the game in an explosive manner. Both sides were creating chances but they were tame efforts. Celtic seem determined to not have a repeat of the 7-0 defeat they suffered in the reverse leg of this fixture.

It took until the 24th minute for the visitors to go ahead. Neymar collected the ball on the edge of the area and chipped into the path of Lionel Messi. The Argentine allowed the ball to bounce before firing it in and the near post.

The half continued with Celtic getting chances from Barça’s sloppy passing but they were unable to take advantage.

The second half started again with Celtic racing out of the blocks. A poor pass from Sergi Roberto allowed the Scottish team their best chance of the night but Dembele couldn't take it. A missed chance that was to be punished minutes later as Luis Suárez was fouled in the box. Messi stepped up to take the resultant penalty and calm dispatched it to double the visitors’ lead.

Barcelona were firmly in control and Celtic were left to rue their missed chances. There was just time for Neymar to pick up a yellow which means he misses the next match but Barça comfortably saw out the game at 2-0.
