The Barcelona squad has clear preferences on who they want to draw in the upcoming Champions League round, if a new report in Sport is to be believed.
The article says the team prefers drawing the Portuguese club FC Porto because they’re considered, on paper, not nearly as strong as the other teams they could draw.
Another motivating factor is their keeper is Iker Casillas, a long time Real Madrid captain, and scoring against him would give a little extra motivation.
However, the team wouldn't mind drawing Benfica or Bayer Leverkusen, or indeed, Paris Saint-Germain. It's understood among the squad that PSG is not the same as in past years and could be vunerable.
The report goes on to say the team they definitely do not want to draw is Bayern Munich. While the German champions are not quite to scintillating form that they were in in the past few years, they have tons of talent and are sure to pose a major challenge.
Is the report to be believed? Perhaps not, but even if it’s not true that Sport was able to get these secrets from the players and staff, it makes a lot of sense.
Bayern are clearly the team to avoid, and while PSG are a big team, they’re not in great form.
However, over the last few season Barcelona have had terrible luck when it comes to avoiding difficult teams. If the past is a guide, Barcelona will surely draw Bayern.
