Transfer Rumor: João Cancelo on Barcelona’s Orbit

Barcelona’s link with João Cancelo remains strong. A report in today’s Sport says Barcelona will invest in the fullback come summer.

The Blaugrana currently have Sergi Roberto, a converted midfielder, and Aleix Vidal at right-back. And because Vidal has struggled to make it into the team, Barcelona could be in for a new right-back as quickly as in January.

However, such a signing would be a low-cost stopgap like Darijo Srna, with the big investment coming in the next transfer window.

The report says Valencia are keen on selling Cancelo to fund a shake-up of the squad, but that both parties agree that the best time to part will be during the summer.

This is not the first report we’ve seen of Barcelona linked with Cancelo. But a lot of time is left until summer, so it will be a story we will have to follow.
