The player spent a season at Barcelona B in 2013, joining from Manchester City. He spent a year on loan at Sevilla, as part of the deal to bring Ivan Rakitic to Barcelona. Last summer, he was sold to "the Yellow Submarine" with a buyback option. valued at €3m, that only becomes available in the summer of 2016.
The young man has been impressing this season, and Barcelona think he could add depth to the squad, especially with Rafinha still recovering from a long-term injury. Now, Barça could offer an extra million or so to accelerate the transfer. Villarreal are going to lose the player anyway, so why not make a little bit of extra money?
The problem is Villarreal value him toward making a push in the league, which also brings in money. Without the buyback, the Blaugrana cannot really compel them to sell.
Villarreal could be persuaded, perhaps, if they can get Real Madrid’s Denis Cheryshev back on loan as a replacement. Real Madrid are willing to loan Cheryshev, but it seems they are aware this could ultimately benefit Barcelona if Villarreal get the player. Maybe it's not the reason, but certainly, it doesn't help Villarreal's case. Therefore, the Russian is linked with a move to Sevilla, according to Diario de Sevilla.
All in all, it seems difficult for the Denis-to-Barça move to materialize.
