Ivan Rakitic, Sergio Busquets injured, will not play for national teams

Two key Barcelona players will not be going away with their international teams.

Midfielders Sergio Busquets and Ivan Rakitic have returned to the Catalan club on Tuesday after both were diagnosed with injuries upon arriving at their national teams' training camps. The Spaniard has a broken finger in his right hand, and while he is in good condition to play, Spain coach Vicente Del Bosque and the team doctors decided to send Busquets back since the upcoming games against Italy and Romania are only preparation friendlies.

Rakitic's case is a little more serious. He sustained a mild hamstring injury against Villarreal on Sunday and was ruled out by the Croatian national team doctors after their own tests confirmed the issue. Ivan will then miss the friendlies against Israel and Hungary in the next few days, and he is expected to be out for six days while receiving treatment in Barcelona.

Busquets and Rakitic are officially doubtful for El Clásico against Real Madrid when club football returns in two weeks, but both should be 100% fit and available to play in the giant La Liga fixture. Coincidentally, Barça's entire starting midfield of Busquets, Rakitic and Iniesta will stay home during the international break, and should play the Clásico with full fitness and two weeks of rest, which could be a big boost for Barça in such a difficult match.
