Neymar is clearly not playing his best football lately. But a club legend is on his side.
Barcelona's eternal captain Carles Puyol, who played with the Brazilian in his first year as a Blaugrana, defended his former teammate as Neymar goes through his worst run of performances ever since he joined forces with Lionel Messi and Luis Suárez, a reflection of the entire team's poor form.
Neymar has been criticized recently not only for his underwhelming showings but also for his behavior on the pitch when things don't go to plan. But according to Puyol, that is a natural thing that happens to every footballer, and thanks to Neymar's work ethic and professionalism, he will return to his best version soon.
"You cannot always be at the highest level. Neymar is still young and he is very professional. We must accept that he cannot always perform at an impressive level. But he will put in great performances again. A bad game for Neymar can still be a good game because he still does spectacular things."
Hopefully Puyol is right. Neymar has shown us his qualities over and over again, and if he's back to his best, Barça is very close to unbeatable. Maybe that still happens this season.
