Barcelona's scout team is always working, and they have focused on the Dutch league lately. They might have found a gem.
According to a report from Diario Sport, the Catalan giants have sent their talent spotters to the Netherlands to watch 23-year-old Eredivise sensation Hakim Ziyech, attacking midfielder of FC Twente. The mid-table side does not challenge for the title, but the Moroccan has become one of the league's biggest stars.
The scouts have been impressed by the player in the many instances they have watched him in live action. Ziyech caught the attention because of his skill set, playmaking ability and goal scoring prowess. His left foot is powerful for shots and free-kicks, but at the same time can deliver accurate long passes to find teammates. Combine his scoring and passing, and you get 17 goals and 10 assists in 32 appearances for club and country this season.
Another quality that attracted Barça's scouts to Ziyech is his versatility. He is currently playing as an attacking midfielder behind the striker, but he's also played in both wings and as a central midfielder when necessary. Due to his age, he would be a first team signing, and his market price, of about €8 million, could turn out to be a bargain if he can take all of his qualities in the Dutch league to Spain and Europe.
As of right now, according to Sport, Barça do not plan to make an offer just yet as they continue to scout and search for more options, but Ziyech is believed to be at the top of the list.
