Barcelona had a scary slump last month and looked destined to disaster at the end of this season, but recovered in spectacular fashion. The team's best player shares the secret.

Lionel Messi spoke in an interview to ESPN Deportes about many topics, including his career, his Argentinean national team accomplishments, and Barça's season. The Catalan giants, who had a 39-game unbeaten streak broken in what became a succession of painful defeats and a Champions League elimination in the beginning of April, bounced back in amazing fashion, winning the last four games by a combined score of 21-0.

Messi was certainly a big part of Barça's recovery, and he shared the secret behind the team returning to its best version. He also spoke about the team's objectives for the end of the season, with the Blaugrana needing two wins in the final two matches to win La Liga and the Copa del Rey. If they achieve that, despite not winning the European Cup, Messi will be more than satisfied with a domestic double.

"Luckily we have been able to get several points ahead. We suffered a dip at a time when we least expected it, after the international break, we had [Real] Madrid and then the qualifier against Atletico Madrid and then consecutive games in La Liga where we dropped many points. Luckily we counted on ourselves and now we are back on top.

"Luckily we caught that in time and banded together. The truth is the elimination by Atletico Madrid in the Champions League was tough. We had been far superior in the first leg and we could have defined the qualifier, but the way we left it and then having to play there, well, that was very difficult. Because Atletico Madrid do what they do very well and that made it more complicated.

We have two finals left, and it would be great to end the season winning them both. It also would have been great to have been in the Champions League final but it wasn't to be. So winning two of three would be spectacular."
