The FC Barcelona first team returned to training on Thursday after two days of rest, with the focus now solely on the crucial title-decider on Saturday. Luis Enrique’s men take on Granada away from home (5.00pm CET) knowing that a victory will secure the league trophy.

Barça can claim a domestic double this campaign, with the Copa del Rey final against Sevilla taking place next Sunday. Mascherano says “winning the league and cup would be very important”. The defender also praised the team spirit: “We have a great squad, with incredible people. We always have it clear in our minds that we are going out there as a team and we must continue working as a unit.”

It happened two years after Johan Cruyff has taken over as FC Barcelona manager, in the summer of 1988. Barça had gone for six years without winning the Liga title. But a new era was dawning - an era that will always be remembered as that of the famous Dream Team. And the moment that dream started to become a reality was when they won the 1990/91 championship, exactly twenty-five years ago on May 12.

The Middle East airline’s executives are still reportedly pondering the possibility of extending their relationship with Barca, although money is not an issue for the company as shown by the €35m the Catalans have been receiving per season, a figure that is €115m more than is poured into the entire Primera division as a whole by BBVA.
