One day after announcing the signing of Samuel Umtiti, FC Barcelona just confirmed the signing of another French defender, left-back Lucas Digne. Upon completing his medical and signing a five-year contract, which includes a €60 million buy-out clause, Digne will be presented at the Camp Nou on Thursday. For the Frenchman's services Barcelona paid Paris Saint-Germain an initial €16.5 million and could pay another €4 million depending on individual and team results.
The 22-year-old, he will celebrate his 23rd birthday in one week, started his professional career at Lille and later moved to Paris Saint-Germain, but recently spent the season on loan at Roma, where he twice faced Barcelona in the group stage of the Champions League. In total, the left-back, who can also play as a left-midfielder, played 148 matches on the club circuit, scoring six goals and assisting on thirteen. Digne is also a French international who was part of the French team that finished second in the Euro 2016, but he did not see any action on the pitch. For Les Bleus he has made thirteen appearances.
Known for his excellent technical ability with the ball, Digne will bring plenty of speed, excellent passing and solid defense to the left side of the Barcelona defense and he will challenge Jordi Alba for minutes on the pitch.
Welcome to Barcelona, Lucas!
