The Rojiblancos have looked decidedly off-colour in their opening two matches of the campaign, drawing with newly promoted teams Alaves and Leganes. They also failed to score from open play in either game.

It is reported that Schalke are set to sign Yevhen Konoplyanka on an initial loan deal from Sevilla. The Ukrainian has been linked with several clubs over the course of the summer transfer window, but it appears the German side have won the race for his signature.

The clubs agreed a fee in writing last week and the 28-year-old midfielder was due to have a medical after the agreement of personal terms was also reached. But it is understood the Spanish club have had second thoughts and Iborra is expected to remain with the Europa League champions.

Borja Viguera is set to complete a move from Athletic to Sporting Gijon on a two-year contract. The 29-year-old has spent two years at San Mames since joining from Basque rivals Alaves but does not feature in Coach Ernesto Valverde’s plans.
