It wouldn't be a Barcelona match without an injury to an important player.
The club announced on Tuesday that French center-back Samuel Umtiti will not be available to play against Atlético Madrid on Wednesday night at Camp Nou because of a knee injury. Javier Mascherano is likely to replace him in the starting lineup for the next few games.
There are very few details on Umtiti's problem. The first few reports from journalists said he had discomfort in his leg, but the official statement from the club says it's a strain on the internal ligament in his left knee. A strain is very, very different than a tear, which is great news. For instance, Lionel Messi suffered a lateral ligament tear and missed two months last season, but that is not Umtiti's case and his absence won't be nearly as long.
He's only ruled out for the Atlético clash, and the evolution of his problem will determine his availability for the next games. He could be ready for the Champions League game against Borussia Mönchengladbach next week, but it's safe to assume we might only see Umtiti again after the international break.
Such a shame. Sammy has been fantastic so far. Get ready soon, monster!
