What you are about to watch is a spectacular passing display from the Barcelona goalkeeper. THE BARCELONA GOALKEEPER.
Marc-André ter Stegen is incredible. The Barça goalie is without a doubt one of the best passing goalkeepers on Earth, and he might seriously challenge Manuel Neuer for the top spot. His vision, calm and composure are otherworldly, and his decision-making is always on point. He's never in a hurry, yet he manages to never be in trouble. The pressure from the attackers doesn't affect him at all, and he's always playing a perfect pass, be it short or long.
That distribution quality was already in display during the vital Athletic Bilbao win from a few weeks ago, and this display against Leganés shows why a goalkeeper is vital to a team that plays the positional game and wants to build up from the back with short passes. A goalkeeper in this system is not a goalkeeper, he's an outfield player allowed to use his hands. While his primary duty is always to stop shots and makes saves, he's just another player in possession, and he needs to be as good if not better than his teammates at passing the ball. Ter Stegen clearly is.
What a player.
