La Liga president Javier Tebas officially announced his resignation via Twitter on Wednesday and said he would call for new elections and run again for the post. The resignation was expected from the leader, who has been in charge of the Spanish league for the past three-and-a-half years.

Real Madrid missed the chance to make La Liga history as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Villarreal at the Bernabeu. Celta defender Hugo Mallo scored his first LaLiga goal of the season in the 66th minute before Duje Cop equalised from the penalty spot with 10 minutes remaining and the sides looked to be sharing the spoils.

Real Sociedad romped to a comfortable 4-1 victory over early pace-setters Las Palmas at the Estadio Anoeta on Wednesday night. Willian Jose got the ball rolling in the first minute and rounded off the hosts' scoring with a 53rd-minute penalty, with Carlos Vela netting a 21st-minute spot-kick and David Zurutuza heading the third.

Valencia must improve very quickly, says interim boss Voro - ESPN FC
Valencia interim coach Voro Gonzalez says he hopes to turn around the club's fortunes in a hurry. Voro took over the Spanish club on an interim basis for the fourth time after Pako Ayestaran was sacked on Tuesday.
