The international break is horrible, but our favorite club players do like to play for their national teams. And five Barcelona stars will represent Spain next month.
Gerard Piqué, Sergi Roberto, Jordi Alba, Sergio Busquets and Andrés Iniesta have all been named in the 23-man squad that will play for La Roja in the European Qualifiers for the 2018 World Cup, against Italy (October 6) and Albania (October 9). Iniesta is called up by new manager Julen Lopetegui for the first time, since was injured and couldn't play earlier this month.
All five Barça stars are expected to start in this international break, which clearly shows manager Julen Lopetegui has full confidence in the Blaugrana players. Sergi Roberto is not only the starting right-back at Barça, but he won that position with the national team as well, which shows that his evolution as a full-back translates into the international level. So there's no denying that Roberto is a great right-back, haters!
Piqué, Alba, Busquets and Iniesta have been starters for La Roja for a huge part of the last decade, and remain integral pieces of the team even in the Lopetegui Era, which got off to a sensational start thanks to an 8-0 thrashing of Lichtenstein in the first Qualifying match three weeks ago.
