Barcelona fans will be doubly happy after watching their team beat Real Sociedad in the first leg of the Copa del Rey quarterfinals with a 1-0 result, thanks to a goal from Neymar. Not only did the Blaugrana take a big advantage to the second leg at Camp Nou, they also broke a 10-year streak of winless trips to the Anoeta Stadium. What a night.
The visitors were very efficient in the first 45 minutes. Barça didn't create many chances, but used their possession well and kept Sociedad away from the Blaugrana's box. And in the only real opportunity of the half, Neymar won and scored a penalty to give the Catalan giants the lead and a vital away goal.
At halftime, a game with plenty of fouls, very few chances and one goal to the good. Only 45 minutes left to break the curse.
Second half, same approach. Barça once again wanted to keep the ball as far away from their box as they could and avoid any dangerous chances from the hosts. There was no excitement or style from Barça, they just wanted to protect the lead. And they did. A vital win away from home, a professional performance, and a 10-year curse broken.
