Barcelona will play the Copa del Rey semifinals for a third straight season under coach Luis Enrique thanks to a 5-2 second leg win over Real Sociedad (6-2 on aggregate). The Blaugrana had a tough night against a good opponent, but extended their first leg advantage and picked up a great win to be part of the Spanish Cup Final Four.
The initial period was very similar to the game we saw in the first leg: Barça trying to keep the ball, but struggling to overcome a Sociedad side pressing high up the pitch, that forced goalkeeper Cillessen to kick the ball long for the whole of the first half.
But when they did get the ball to the attacking half, Barça managed some good high pressure of their own, and that tactic worked when Neymar stole a ball close to the box, found Messi, who found Luis Suárez, who found Denis Suárez, who found the goal.
Not much happened in the half, and the Blaugrana had a two-goal aggregate lead. One more goal and the tie would definitely be over.
After just 10 minutes, the tie-killing goal came thanks to another play we saw in the first leg at Anoeta. Neymar pushed the ball on a one-man counter, and won a clear penalty in the box. Lionel Messi stepped up and easily scored the second.
Sociedad got a goal back with Juanmi, but Luis Suárez scored 30 seconds later to keep a healthy advantage for the hosts. Willian José scored with 15 minutes to go and gave La Real a small chance, but they still needed two goals. Actually, three, because a great team play led to Aleix Vidal finding Arda Turan for the fourth goal. Actually, four, because Denis Suarez scored his second of the game and Barça's fifth.
