Marc-André ter Stegen

Was relied upon again to keep Málaga out who did manage five shots on target. Barça can thank the German for keeping Málaga goalless.

Sam says: 7

Sergi Roberto

A strong performance from Roberto which saw hims swap positions at one point, highlighting his versatility. Played the majority of the game at right back and did very well there. Also very good passing with an accuracy of 92%.

Sam says: 7

Javier Mascherano

Filling in for the suspended Gerard Piqué, Mascherano did very well. Contributing the most tackles of any Barça player and stopping a risky looking cross in the first half.

Sam says: 7

Samuel Umtiti

Umtiti was a passing machine in this game. Reaching 103 attempts with an accuracy of 95.2% highlights the playmaking work he did alongside his defensive duties. His two tackles, two interceptions and three clearances helped keep Málaga at bay.

Sam says: 8

Lucas Digne

Did well to get his cross in, even if the ball did go out, for Barça’s opener. Was a constant option down the left flank.

Sam says: 7

Gerard Deulofeu

Despite the ball clearly going out of play, Deulofeu did incredibly well to twist his body into a shooting opportunity for Barça’s opener. His run near post allowed him to flick the ball into the net for his first Barça goal.

Sam says: 8

Ivan Rakitić

A so-so performance from the Croatian. Showed more attacking intent than he has done previously this campaign but it didn't really come to anything.

Sam says: 6

Sergio Busquets

Kept the game ticking but his passing was more wayward than we have seen previously. Busquets regularly has a passing accuracy of about 90% but this game he registered 84%. Defensively he was good, making the joint most amount of interceptions.

Sam says: 7

Andrés Iniesta

Iniesta was involved heavily in an attacking sense for Barça which is a change of pace from how we have seen him so far this season. Regaurly linking up with Lionel Messi, his movement in the box allowed him shots at goals and it was in this game he scored his first goals since 2015. With a bouncing ball, it could have been a difficult attempt but Iniesta volleyed the ball on his weaker left foot into the corner of the net and sealed the points for Barça.

Sam says: 8.5

Lionel Messi

Once more the focal point of Barça’s attack. In particular his link up with Iniesta was good and helped Barça produce many chances. Unlucky not to get on the scoresheet himself but he did add another assist to his collection.

Sam says: 8

Luis Suárez

Another disappointing outing from Suárez as he continues to struggle this season. Managing three shots but all of them off target shows the lack of confidence in which the Uruguayan is playing. Substituted out in the 82nd minute.

Sam says: 5

Valverde’s sub of choice at the moment performed well in his 25 minute spell.

Sam says: 7

Nelson Semedo

Played half an hour and did well in that time.

Sam says: 7

Paco Alcacer

Brief cameo at the end.

Sam says: N/A

The Team

Another poor first half that was improved on in the second.

Sam says: 7

Ernesto Valverde

Needs to address the poor first half of this season but once again his substitutions were good.

Sam says: 7

Man of the match

Sam says: Iniesta
