FC Barcelona could be adding two centerbacks soon, one of which would be Yerry Mina, according to Diario SPORT. Either Mina would come in January, and another defender in the summer, or both might come in the summer.
Mina can come in the January transfer window if Thomas Vermaelen leaves during that period. Vermaelen finally played some minutes this season in a 3-0 win over Murcia in the Copa del Rey, but he is said to be displeased with his dearth of game time. Considering he’s still a player for Belgium, a possible candidate for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, Vermaelen might leave to a place that can offer him regular playing time.
Barcelona are said to have a purchase option for Mina from his parent club Palemeiras, from Brazil. The Colombian international would cost 9 million euro. Reportedly, he, along with his family and entourage, think that he's ready to make the jump from South America towards Europe. Mina is said to set on taking on the challenge of proving himself to Ernesto Valverde and earn minutes for Barcelona as soon as possible.
The second defender signed could be a Frenchman, given that the team wants to repeat the successful signing of another French player, Samuel Umtiti.
Eighteen-year-old Dan-Axel Zagadou (Borussia Dortmund) and 20-year-old Mouctar Diakhaby (Lyon) are on the list. Both have played in French youth teams and are considered promising prospects for les bleus.
Zagadou is earning a spot in Dortmund’s rotation and made his UEFA Champions League debut by playing `10 minutes against Tottenham Hotspur. Diakhaby has made his debut in the Europa League, playing the full 90 as Lyon beat Everton 2-1 in Goodison Park.
Another name mentioned in the report is a player who has been linked with Barcelona in the past: Kalidou Koulibaly. Compared to the other two, the 26-year-old Koulibaly is much further along in his development. He was born in France but represents Senegal at international level, and he’s become an integral part of a very good Napoli side.
