Former Real Madrid, Chelsea, and Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Claude Makelele named FC Barcelona captain Andres Iniesta when asked about the best midfielder he’s ever seen. He also mentioned former Barcelona star Deco.
When asked, “who is the best midfielder you’ve ever seen,” Makelele said: “There are some very good ones now but I've always been very impressed with Andres Iniesta. He is a complete player and can do everything. Deco was also very good.“
Makelele is known for his work as a defensive pivot, which was so highly rated some people still talk about a player “playing the Makalele role.”
He was also asked who was more difficult to mark, Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo. “Both,” he said. “I know them well because I've faced both and... argh! One player alone can't stop them! They are so difficult to stop because they're complete players and are very good at so many things.”
Makelele also said Casemiro of Real Madrid and N’Golo Kante of Chelsea remind him of himself, and that Kylian Mbappe of PSG is going to be “very good, very good.”
