The interest between Leon Goretzka and Barcelona is heating up according to some recent reports in Germany and Spain. The young German has been with his current club Schalke 04 since 2013 when he signed a five-year deal. That deal is ending next summer, and Schalke are reportedly a bit hopeless in re-signing their star.

The club’s sporting director has been quoted saying that the club “can't do anything else” regarding re-signing Goretzka and have done “everything possible".

"We are trying to convince him, also financially. We are trying to look for the best way to convince him to stay, but without putting pressure on him."

Unfortunately for Schalke fans Goretzka’s departure appears to be all but done. If he does end up leaving, its the unfortunate part about football. You get to watch a young player grow and develop at your club, but when the player wishes to move on, sitting back and watching it happens can feel helpless. Christian Heidel appears to have come to that conclusion.
