FC Barcelona News: 29 November 2017; 16 Called Up to Face Real Murcia, Non-Copa Players Continue Training

Thirty-six days after procuring a shutout victory at Real Murcia in the first leg of the Copa del Rey’s round of 32, Fútbol Club Barcelona is hosting the return leg at Camp Nou looking to finish the job and become one of the 16 teams still standing in what began as an 83-team tournament.

FC Barcelona are in Copa del Rey action on Wednesday as they face Murcia at the Camp Nou (7.30pm CET, tickets here) and they’re doing so in a very comfortable position indeed after winning the first leg 3-0. And Ernesto Valverde was decidedly honest about the situation in his pre-game conference, readily admitting that he doesn’t see the need to field a ‘full strength’ team in order to gain passage to the last sixteen.

There is Copa del Rey action at the Camp Nou this evening, with a 7.30pm CET kick-off against Murcia (full details here). But even so, there was still activity on the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper training ground for the players that manager Ernesto Valverde has decided to rest for a fixture that the 3-0 lead from the first leg has turned into a relative formality.

Valverde refused to complain too much after the game, pointing out Barca had benefited from a similar situation when the ball went out of play in the buildup to Gerard Deulofeu's goal against Malaga. However, speaking at a news conference before Wednesday's Copa del Rey game against Real Murcia, he said: "What is absurd is that people in the top row of the stadium can see that the ball is in and those below them can't.

Barcelona have targeted Chelsea star Willian as an alternative should they fail in their attempts to sign Philippe Coutinho from Liverpool. The Catalan side saw their approaches for Coutinho knocked back by Liverpool in the summer as the Anfield side demanded €200 million for him.
