It could even be someone else.

We told you before that Sevilla’s Jorge Sampaoli heads fan polls and betting lines to replace Luis Enrique as the FC Barcelona coach.

That “favorite” tag has been repeated by a Sky Sports journalist.

But we are getting some conflicting information.

Guillem Balagué on Sky Sports said Barcelona feel that Sampaoli has “the right style of play, but not the right personality for the club.” Balagué is a Catalan journalist sometimes viewed with suspicion among Barcelona fans for being a fan of crosstown rivals Espanyol.

But there are other sources which cast suspicion on the claim Sampaoli is the favorite.

El Partidazo, a show on Spanish radio station COPE, reported that Barcelona had a list with at least four names on it. The #1 name? Athletic Club Bilbao’s Ernesto Valverde. Also on the list: Everton’s Ronald Koeman, Red Bull Salzburg’s Óscar García Yunyent, and “later” Sampaoli.

And on Cadena Ser, another Spanish radio outlet, the guy heading the list was Real Sociedad and former Barcelona B boss Eusebio Sacristán.

There are a ton of other names being banded about, but of the remaining possible options, perhaps the likeliest would be Lucho’s #2 man, Juan Carlos Unzué.

It seems that Barcelona have not reached a final decision given that there is a lack of clarity in the media about even who is currently the preferred choice.

It’s something we’ll simply have to wait on for the time being.
