Good news for FC Barcelona: Carlos Kameni is leaving La Liga. The Cameroonian international is leaving Malaga, the place he called home since 2012, for Turkish side Fenerbahce.
In the past six La Liga matches, Barcelona won less than half the time against Malaga, despite the Anchovies being a midtable team. In the past season, Malaga more or less ended Barcelona’s title hopes with a 2-0 victory, Kameni with the clean sheet, of course. Earlier in the season there was a 0-0 draw which was perhaps Kameni’s finest hour, looking almost unbeatable in net despite constant pressure from the Catalans.
In those six matches, Kameni only allowed three goals - quite the feat against a team that averaged over 3 goals per game last season. Even in defeat, Kameni was excellent. Notably, in August 2015, Kameni had a superb performance only to be undone by a late goal from Thomas Vermaelen, of all people.
There’s not a lot of players Barcelona fear, but Kameni seemed to always have his best performances against Barcelona. Cules will be happy not to have to see him anymore.
