Highly rated Palmeiras defender Yerry Mina was injured during a Copa Libertadores match against Ecuadorian club Barcelona de Guayaquil. The Colombian has been a long-standing target to bolster FC Barcelona’s defense.

He fractured his left foot in the 39th minute as his club were eventually eliminated on penalties. He is expected to be out between four and five weeks. It remains to be seen how these developments will affect a possible move to Europe.

Barcelona reportedly have a "first-refusal agreement" with Palmeiras that allows them to buy Mina tarting at €9m in 2017, €10m in 2018, or €12m in 2019.

The Catalans have also been considering the signing of Iñigo Martinez from Real Sociedad as another player who can improve the depth in defense.
