After Barcelona lost 3-1 at Camp Nou to Real Madrid, not to mention the unpopular signing of Paulinho, Twitter was filled with messages against current club president Josep Maria Bartomeu. So much so, in fact, that #BartomeuDimiteYa (“Bartomeu Resign Now”) became a worldwide #1 trending topic.

This comes as Agusti Benedito, a candidate in the past elections, has led a movement to pass a vote of no confidence against Bartomeu. If it succeeds, Bartomeu could be removed. However, for that to happen, he needs to secure the votes of two-thirds of the club’s members.

Losing El Clasico stung, even though it was in the Spanish Super Cup and Barcelona could still win it in the second leg. The board’s inability to replace departing superstar Neymar has also been a point of contention that has made tensions overflow today.

Paulinho has been vehemently opposed by fans, at least online. The timing of his signing was probably a bad look for the board.
