Barcelona have been dealt another blow ahead of the start of the Liga season with the club confirming Luis Suarez is out for a month with a knee injury picked up against Real Madrid.
Gerard Pique is also on the injured list with a groin strain, making him doubtful for the club’s opening league game of the season against Real Betis.
“Luis Suárez will be out of action for around four weeks. Test carried out on Thursday morning confirm that the Uruguayan has a distension in the posterior articular capsule in his right knee picked up in the second half of the Clásico on Wednesday in the Santiago Bernabéu.
“As such, the Barça number 9 is set to miss the league games against Betis, Alavés, Espanyol and possibly the trip to Getafe also, the first fixture following the international break in early September.
“The tests carried out on Gerard Piqué confirm that the defender has a groin strain in his left leg and his recovery will decide his availability for the game against Betis.”

It’s more bad news for Barca with Suarez set to miss up to four games, and is perhaps even greater motivation, if any were needed, for the club to strengthen the squad.
The news is also a major headache for Ernesto Valverde who must now pick his first Liga starting XI for Barca, without two key members of his squad.
