Luis Suarez has sought to play down concerns over his fitness after he hobbled off during Uruguay’s World Cup qualifier with Argentina which finished 0-0 in Montevideo.

The striker was a surprise starter for the hosts after shrugging off a knee injury that has seen him sidelined since the Spanish Super Cup defeat to Real Madrid.

However, he returned to action but there was huge concern towards the end of the game when he went down clutching his knee and appearing in some pain.

Suarez was unable to continue and subsequently hobbled off but took to Instagram after the game to say the problem was only cramp and that he was fine.

The update will be a huge relief to Barcelona and Ernesto Valverde who have had to cope without Suarez for the opening two games of the season.

Uruguay travel to Paraguay for another qualifier on September 6 and hopefully Suarez can come through that one unscathed too.
