FC Barcelona officially broke ground on Thursday at the Johan Cruyff Stadium, which will be the jewel of the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper and an emblematic piece of the Espai Barça project and where a clear plastic time capsule filled with different objects was deposited into the ground.

Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu has again said that Lionel Messi's father has signed a contract renewal on behalf of the Argentina forward that will keep him at the club until 2021. Barca announced in July that Messi had agreed a four-year extension to his deal and it would be "signed in the coming weeks, when Messi returns to the team for preseason training."
