“I would tell Josep Maria Bartomeu to leave Barça now” said Agusti Benedito, a former candidate for Barcelona president, in regards to the current president. Benedito is leading a vote to declare a motion of no confidence against Bartomeu, one that has been gaining steam as the club finished a disappointing summer transfer window.

Benedito needs to collect 16,500 signatures from club socis to force a vote to remove Bartomeu as president, something the man leading the movement calls “a historic challenge.”

But with organized protests from fans, it doesn’t seem all that far-fetched.

Benedito is calling on Bartomeu to step down rather than face the ignominy of being forced out, but the current president doesn’t seem ready to do so just yet.

This is a story to watch as the season unfolds.
