Andres Iniesta spoke with Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu after the player seemingly publicly contradicted him about whether he had agreed a renewal or not, according to a report in both Mundo Deportivo and SPORT.
Bartomeu had said there was an agreement in principle over the player’s renewal, but Iniesta, asked by reporters to confirm this while walking to his car, had seemingly denied this.
Both papers, which could have been briefed by the same source, reported that the talks went well and that both parties are keen on a renewal, with only minor details left to work out.
The public contradiction had put Bartomeu under the spotlight. Agusti Benedito, who is leading a movement to force him out, said Bartomeu “has little connection” with the squad.
“Iniesta confirmed it today," Benedito had said.
This all comes after Iniesta’s father said his son plans on remaining at Barça.
