Barcelona have suffered another defensive blow, as Thomas Vermaelen was forced off with an injury during Belgium’s win over Switzerland on Friday.

Vermaelen started the game for Roberto Martinez’s side but was forced off after 73 minutes and went straight down the tunnel with what looked like a hamstring problem.

Barcelona will be hoping the problem is not too serious with Samuel Umtiti currently sidelined and no indication of when he might return.

If Vermaelen is out for a while it would leave just Gerard Pique and Clement Lenglet as the clubs only two fit senior centre-backs.

Barcelona also have some pretty important fixtures coming up. A visit from league leaders Sevilla is the first fixture after the international break, followed by Inter Milan and Real Madrid.
