FC Barcelona could be in the market for a defender following injuries to Thomas Vermaelen and Samuel Umtiti, and a surprising new name has been added to the list: Dejan Lovren.

The Liverpool defender could move to Barcelona during the winter transfer window, according to Francesc Aguilar of Mundo Deportivo. The 29-year-old Croatian just played his first Premier League match this term, a draw against Manchester City, after missing out since the beginning of the season with a pelvis injury.

Lovren was a starter for the Croatia team that achieved a historic second-place finish at the 2018 FIFA World Cup. Last season, he went through some struggles and notable wobbles, but was a starter for Liverpool as they reached the UEFA Champions League final.

Barça have been linked with several defenders, although there is optimism that Umtiti will recover sooner rather than later. At the moment, the club only has two fit senior centerbacks as they prepare to embark on a tough list of fixtures.
