Barcelona technical secretary Éric Abidal has spoken about Ernesto Valverde’s situation. Rumor has it that the manager has not decided yet whether he would stay or not for another season at Barcelona after this current season is over.
“The manager has a contract and he will take a decision, but I don’t want to pressure him, and neither does the president,” Abidal said.
“He has an important job inside of the club, and if we pressure him more, it will be more difficult.”
The Frenchman admitted that “a time will come in which he will have to decide, because if his decision is a no, the club will search for a new manager.”
Still, Abidal insisted that he believed that “the manager is inside of his project, inside of his season, and will continue his path step by step. We have to let him do the work in the best way possible.”
He went on to praise Valverde: “We value that he is a manager with a lot of patience, but who analyzes very well. Therefore, he adapts and plans, as he showed last year. We are here to help him, so that he has the team at 100% the whole season, and to acquire objectives that we have set for ourselves.”
Abidal’s words suggest that Barcelona are, until further notice, satisfied with Valverde’s work up to this point.
