Inter Milan were at the Camp Nou on Wednesday night for their Champions League clash with Barcelona and also took time out to enquire about Malcom’s availability. The Brazilian has been barely used this season, and the Serie A side want to be first in the queue if he is allowed to depart.
Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde gave his thoughts after the win over Inter Milan. He said: “We needed to take a step up in today’s game and that’s what we did. We played very well, and got better as the game progressed. Those were three very important points and the result in the other game in the group has benefited us as well.”
Barcelona midfielder Denis Suarez was wanted by Inter and Napoli last summer. However, the two clubs were put off by Barcelona’s €40 million valuation of the 24-year-old. Denis has not played a single minute this season and is likely to be linked with a move away again in January.
Sergi Roberto says that Barcelona players gave a little bit more against Inter Milan with captain Lionel Messi out injured. He said: “The other day it was a shock to see him [Messi] go off. Today we knew about it and we took a step forward. We all stepped up and gave a bit extra. We always give our all but today a little more. It was a very difficult match.”
Barcelona are optimistic Samuel Umtiti is recovering well from injury. The defender is back running and could return to action after the next international break. He will not play in Les Bleus’ games against the Netherlands and Uruguay but could be back in action at the end of November.
Inter captain Mauro Icardi was not happy with his side’s display against Barcelona. Speaking after the match he said: “I am not very happy with the performance, because we could’ve done well from the start and instead were pinned back. We’ve got to put in a great shift at San Siro and get points to go through.
