FC Barcelona hat trick hero Luis Suárez has said he is not surprised to think that his club is already looking for his successor.
“That Barcelona are looking for a nine... it’s normal. I’m already 31 years old,” he told Uruguayan radio station Sport890.
The forward was asked if he was bothered by rumors that his club was in the market for a forward, but he insisted that he was not concerned.
Despite being the beneficiary of a VAR decision in Barcelona’s 5-1 dismantling of Real Madrid, Suárez expressed ambivalence about video review.
“You lose a spark,” he said, “at even the slightest doubt defenders raise their hands and the forward doesn’t celebrate because of possible doubts. Later if they give you the goal as valid, you don’t do it anymore. The adrenaline of celebrating a goal is divine, and VAR takes those little things away.”
In addition, referees don’t take action even when they see a clear penalty, he argues, because they know VAR will take care of it for them.
“We have to get used to not arguing so much with the refs, not arguing against them, because that’s why we have VAR. Without discussion,” Suárez finished.
