Uruguay have confirmed that Luis Suarez has not been called up for their games against South Korea and Japan because of the imminent arrival of his third child.

A statement on the team’s website noted that his son is due to arrive during the international break. If he were to make an early appearance Suarez could be made available for selection.

Uruguay are due to play South Korea in Seoul on October 12 and Japan in Saitama on October 16.

There have been reports that Suarez is struggling with a knee injury picked up against Spurs in midweek and could miss Sunday’s game with Valencia.
