Barcelona’s La Liga Title-Clinching Scenarios

FC Barcelona could mathematically seal the La Liga title this week, and they have a few ways of doing so. Atlético’s 1-1 draw with Real Betis yesterday nearly eliminated them from contention, and Real Madrid only have the faintest of hopes as it is.

Scenario #1

Barcelona win the title if both Real Madrid and Atléti fail to win. Keep in mind, they both play before Barcelona, so Barça can win the title before playing Deportivo La Coruña this Sunday. This is the earliest possible time for the Blaugrana to officially win La Liga.

Scenario #2

Barcelona can win the title following the end of their match against Deportivo if both Madrid clubs win, but Barcelona also draw or win.

Scenario #3

Real or Atlético, or both teams, can remain alive in the title race for at least one more week if they win their respective game and Barça loses. For Atlético to win the title, they need to win every one of their next three remaining matches and hope Barcelona lose all four of theirs. For Real to win the title, they need to win every remaining match, hope Barça lose every remaining match, and win the direct matchup tiebreaker (most likely, this would mean beating Barcelona by at least four goals.)
