Yerry Mina had a disastrous outing by all accounts as Barcelona lost 5-4 to Levante. The young defender had had encouraging performances beforehand, and certainly, many still think he will one day develop into a class player. But right now, his future at the club is in doubt.
While he has good tackling abilities and is great in the air, and he is fearless with the ball, he lacks pace and, particularly, the ability to turn when playing a high line. His positioning and passing need work to fit into Barça, and Ernesto Valverde was reluctant to use him throughout the season.
There’s a chance the Colombian could leave on loan next summer, to see if he can develop into a dependable player for Barcelona. In the meantime, Barcelona could be looking at other options in the center of defense.
The loan option had been a rumor already, but it’s probably gotten more likely now with his latest performance.
