Philippe Coutinho scored once again as Brazil won 2-0 over Costa Rica on Friday. The match look destined for a draw until the midfielder put the Seleçao in front in the dying minutes of the game.
Coutinho also scored a screamer as Brazil drew 1-1 with Switzerland in their opening fixture. It’s safe to say the Brazilians would be in a much more perilous position were it not for Coutinho.
Many wondered whether Coutinho could succeed playing in a midfield three that includes his Barcelona teammate, Paulinho, and his Real Madrid rival, Casemiro. So far, he’s responded very well.
Barcelona bought him over the winter transfer window from Liverpool, apparently thinking that his price (record-breaking as it was) would only increase after a successful World Cup.
So far, they seem to be right.
Could a World Cup dominated by talk that Neymar may lead Brazil to the promised land actually turn out to be Coutinho’s tournament?
