Gerard Piqué sat down with James Rodríguez for an interview for The Players’ Tribune, in which the defender issued an invitation to his former Real Madrid rival.
After a 20-minute interview, Piqué thanked James for letting him into his home, and then said “you are invited to Barcelona whenever you want” - ambiguous, as he could have meant merely to visit his house in the city, not to join the team.
But then he made it explicit: “And I don’t know, Barça some day. I have always said you were Barça material. Your form of playing, your way of understanding football. But in the end, in your career, no one knows where you’ll end up. But you’d be welcome.”
James simply said thanks while laughing.
Piqué also asked James if the famous Cristiano Ronaldo birthday party at which singer Kevin Roldán performed after Real Madrid lost 4-0 to Atlético Madrid affected them later throughout the season. Piqué memorably thanked Roldán in Barcelona’s title celebrations, but James insisted the party did not impact the team in any way.
No report has linked James, who is currently at Bayern Munich, with a move back to La Liga. The two are at the FIFA World Cup (Piqué with Spain and James with Colombia) right now.
