Luis Suarez was on target for Uruguay on Monday as the team booked their place in the last 16 of the World Cup as group winners.

The Barcelona striker scored after just 10 minutes with a sweetly-struck free-kick which flew into the bottom corner.

The strike was his seventh World Cup goal for Uruguay and only Oscar Miguez has more.

A Denis Cheryshev own goal put Uruguay 2-0 up and, the hosts’ afternoon got even worse as Igor Smolnikov was sent off 10 minutes before half-time.

Edinson Cavani completed the win late on as he tapped home from close range as Uruguay put in their best performance of the tournament so far.

The win means Uruguay finish as winners of Group A and go through to meet the runners-up of Group B which could be Spain, Portugal or even Iran.
