Barcelona have finally managed to lock down Samuel Umtiti with the defender set to sign a new deal that will keep him at the club until 2023.
It really is brilliant news for Barcelona as Umtiti has been a superb signing and has become a vital part of the team.
It’s no surprise that top clubs were sniffing around him last season when it was revealed his release clause was just €60 million, and that’s now been upped to €500m according to reports in Spain.
Meanwhile, Opta have showed just how vital Umtiti is to Barcelona. Have a look for yourselves:
83% - Barcelona’s La Liga win percentage with Samuel Umtiti starting since he joined the club (W40 D7 L1), compared to 57% without him (W16 D8 L4). Renewal. pic.twitter.com/BGeg6v14zP— OptaJose (@OptaJose) June 3, 2018
According to Opta, Umtiti has lost just once in 48 starts for Barcelona and, as you can see, the win percentage drops drastically when he’s not in the team.
Securing Umtiti’s future was one of Barcelona’s biggest transfer priorities this season and thankfully they’ve got it done nice and early.
