Barcelona 2017/18 Review: Goal of the Season

Messi Free Kick vs Real Sociedad

What a world we live in… It seems as though every weekend we are graced with the ability to observe the greatest magician in the world put on a show…Lionel Messi. Up 3-2 against Real Sociedad at Anoeta, a stadium where Barcelona have well documented struggles, Messi put the game out of reach. This free kick is almost indescribable, but we’ll leave it to the goalie’s reaction to summarize the free kick… he didn’t move.

Suarez Goal vs Real Sociedad

It seems Real Sociedad were the victims of an outburst in shooting touch, because Luis Suarez in the same game torched them with an insane finish. The curve on the ball is reminiscent of a wonderful Samuel Eto’o goal, and leaves most of us speechless as well.

Coutinho Goal vs Real Sociedad

Again, against Real Sociedad… you really have to begin to question whether they deserved it for some reason. This time, a new face though. Barcelona’s signature winter signing showed Real Sociedad exactly why he was signed in the first place with this bending beauty. Goals from outside the box have been sort of problematic for Barcelona in the past several years, but not anymore…

Dembele Goal vs Villarreal

Ousmane Dembele had to wait several months to begin showing the Blaugranes faithful the precise reasons he was signed, but this goal against Villareal appropriately summarizes why the Barcelona board was so keen on the youngster. Picking the ball up in midfield, bamboozling several defenders, and then cheekily chipping the goalkeeper… magic.

Messi Free Kick vs Atletico Madrid

For some the question was who would win – the unstoppable force or the immovable object? Jan Oblak is considered a top 5 keeper around the world and it was a showdown when Messi stepped up to take a free kick in a game that solidified Barcelona’s title. Messi placed it perfectly, Oblak had no chance, and Barcelona went on to stroll to the La Liga title.
