The World Cup may have ended in disappointment for Ivan Rakitic and Croatia as they lost the final 4-2 to France, but the team have been given a hero’s welcome as they returned home from Russia.
It was a superb tournament for Zlatko Dalic’s side. They started with a 3-0 thrashing of Argentina in the group stages, saw off hosts Russia and Denmark on penalties and then beat England to book a place in the final.
Although they couldn’t quite seal their first ever World Cup win it was still a tournament to remember, and the fans were out in force in Zagreb to show their appreciation.
Rakitic was one of the stars for Croatia and will now head off on holiday before he returns for pre-season training late.
The midfielder played 71 games for club and country last season, more than any other player, and really deserves to put his feet up.
