FC Barcelona are set to sign Bayern Munich midfielder Arturo Vidal. The interest was first, bizarrely, confirmed by his young son on the child’s YouTube channel a few days ago. Now, several media outlets are saying the player is on his way to the Camp Nou,
Gerard Romero and Albert Rogé, two journalists based in Barcelona, have independently reported the news. Meanwhile, Italian transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio reported that Barcelona are favorites to pip Inter Milan for Vidal’s signature.
The 31-year-old player was part of the Juventus team that lost the 2015 Champions League Final to Barcelona, before moving to play under Pep Guardiola at Bayern Munich.
He’s a part of Chile’s golden generation which won the Copa América twice, as well as a league winner in Chile, Italy, and Germany. He has also been faced with multiple off-the-pitch issues, most notably a drunk-driving charge.
On the pitch, he’s known primarily for his tenacity and defensive ability, as well as the ability to score a few goals. He is seen as Barcelona’s replacement for the departed Paulinho for his physical presence and scoring contribution.
