Diario AS reports that Real Madrid are interested in bringing an ex-Barcelona player to strengthen their midfield should Mateo Kovačić or Luka Modrić leave. Thiago Alcántara has been linked with a move back to the Camp Nou all summer, but in the end, he could be returning to La Liga in white.

Kovačić has been linked with a move on loan to Chelsea, while Modrić has been linked with a move to Inter Milan, either of which would leave Madrid a bit short in midfield. Real Madrid coach Julen Lopetegui has already worked with the Bayern Munich midfielder when the two met during their time in the Spanish national team. AS says Lopetegui really likes Thiago and wants to work with him again.

His price is rumored to be set at 60 million euro, which would be reduced by Bayern paying up for James Rodríguez, who is currently on loan from Madrid.

Another rumored option is Juventus’s Miralem Pjanić, who was also linked with a move to Barça. AS reckon he’d cost about 80 million.
