Levante have asked the Court of Arbitration for Sport to temporarily suspend the Barcelona-Sevilla match due to be played on Wednesday to allow time for their case to be heard.

Levante are ultimately asking the CAS to kick Barcelona out of the Copa del Rey, with the “frogs” taking over their berth due to an ineligible player.

The Valencian club argues that Barça fielded B team player Chumi incorrectly and thus should be expulsed. Barcelona denies the charge.

A Spanish Federation judge and an appeals committee both ruled against Levante because their complaint was received after the 48 hour deadline given to protests of this sort. Levante had two days after the match to complain, but they did not realize they had a case until the week after.

Neither the judge nor the committee ruled whether Chumi was eligible for the match he played or not, as they considered it a moot point given the complaint was past the deadline.
