FC Barcelona were reportedly in pole position to sign Jean-Clair Todibo next summer on a free transfer, but the process may get a speed boost. That is to say, rumors now suggest Barça will sign Todibo right away, and either incorporate him into the squad or loan him for six months.

According to the radio show Sin Concesiones, Barcelona are on the verge of completing the signing of Todibo from Toulouse. He would join the team this month, and coach Ernesto Valverde would decide whether to keep him in the squad or loan him for six months. It would depend on whether Samuel Umtiti and Thomas Vermaelen are recovering well from their respective injuries.

If that is the case, Barcelona may have to pay a small fee to advance the signing. It would give Barça centerback cover if the doctors feel that Umtiti and Vermaelen cannot be relied upon. However, the rumors do not give any information about a possible fee, or why Barça would be keen to pay a fee if they end up loaning him back anyway.

Barça already signed Jeison Murillo from Valencia as centerback cover during this winter transfer window.

Stay tuned.
