Munir has been frozen out of the squad due to his contract situation, according to his agent, Francisco Valdivieso. In an interview with BeIN Sports, Valdivieso confirmed rumors that coach Ernesto Valverde had told his client he would not be picked to play until he renewed his contract.
Munir had reportedly chosen to see out his deal and join Sevilla on a free transfer this summer.
“The week against Celta, Munir hears the news from the coach that he will not be called up more until he decides to renew,” his agent said.
Valdivieso said Valverde warned Munir he would give rotation minutes to other players or even youth players ahead of him, due to the contract situation.
“The player is very thankful to Barça and is absolutely committed to the club because he knows he has a contract until June,” the agent continued, “but the bad part is that after all the promises from the club and from the coach at the start of the year, they don’t count on him.”
Munir has not been happy about the lack of playing time this season, and it seems he believed he has to leave to get the minutes he craves. For the moment, his choices have resulted in the opposite effect - no minutes. The young forward will be relieved to join another club if it continues this way.
